Call for papers

18th Education and Development Conference [EDC2023] accepts the following types of submissions and they will be evaluated as follows:

  • Academic submissions:
    1.  Currency, importance, and relevance to the conference themes
    2. Clearly states purpose and outcome
    3. Clearly states design methodology and findings* (applicable for complete research papers)
    4. Originality and innovation
    5. Clarity of abstract as indicator of presentation quality

  • Professional and personal development:
    1.  Relevance to conference themes
    2. Clearly states purpose and outcome
    3. Idea flow as and indicator of presentation quality
    4. Creative and inspirational
    5. Contains applicable and beneficial items

  • NGO, Government, Non-Profit:
    1.  Relevance to conference themes
    2. Clearly states purpose and outcome
    3. Idea flow as an indicator of presentation quality
    4. Clearly stated implementation
    5. Societal impact
:
Proposals are accepted on a rolling admission basis as long as space is available or by January 31st 2023 at the latest and are to be be submitted along with the application form. All submissions will be peer reviewed and acceptance/rejections is based on the criteria specified above, as well as professional and personal background of the applicant, in order to ensure a dynamic and diverse learning environment. Admission decisions are made on a rolling admission basis, within 7 days after the application has been submitted. Admission may close earlier than the date stated above if space in the conference fills up.

Dr. Anastasia Eleftheriou

Dr. Anastasia Eleftheriou holds a PhD in Complex Systems Simulation from the University of Southampton and a BEng in Computing from Imperial College London. Her Doctoral Thesis aim was to investigate the use of serious games simulations for public health issues, and, in particular, to explore the use of simulations to influence attitudes to sexual behavior. She has experience in applied research in various fields, like ICT, health, manufacturing, security, standardization and marine sector. She has extensive software engineering experience in various fields of ICT, both in industry and academia, working for organizations including Man Group plc, Orbis Investments, Mandara Capital, University of Southampton, Imperial College London, the Center for Technology Research and Innovation and Innov-Acts. She is a co-founder of Technologos and she is currently working for Technologos as a Senior Researcher. Dr. A.Eleftheriou has published several scientific papers in International Journals as well as in International Scientific Conferences.

Kevin Fuchs, M.Sc. is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Prince of Songkla University. His research is about sustainable tourism development, technology-enhanced learning, and the flipped classroom pedagogy, such as how to increase student engagement in hybrid learning. He was educated in Finland and Sweden and moved to the Prince of Songkla University in 2020. His paper “A Qualitative Assessment About Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT): A Case Study in Higher Education” was awarded the “Best Paper Award” at the EDC2020. Prof. Maria Assif

Maria Assif is Associate Professor of English, the Coordinator of Critical Writing about Literature) and the Faculty Advisor of the joint Program (B.A. in English and a Master of Teaching) at the University of Toronto Scarborough. She is a seasoned higher education administrator, with many years of experience coordinating writing programs, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and leading curriculum committees and initiatives. She is also the Faculty Advisor of the only Canadian chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Her research focuses on writing studies and pedagogy, Arab women writers, and students as partners (SaP) scholarship. Both her textbook, Beyond the Five Paragraph Essay (Oxford University Press) and her digital, critical database on Arab women writers are expected to be released in 2022. She is also the recipient of many research and teaching awards. She lives in Toronto with her husband and two young daughters.

​Dr. Susan Crosbie

After working for various investment banks in NYC and Bangkok, Dr Susan Crosbie returned to academia and earned her doctorate in education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus, USA in 2006. Her inspiration came after teaching at an adult literacy program in the Republic of South Africa from 1996-2001. She has been teaching in the Arabian Gulf for over seventeen years, and currently during the academic year, she acts as an educational consultant for K-12 schools. Her research interests include academic integrity and the use of technology, including artificial intelligence, not only in the identification of academic fraud but also in guiding students how to use technology to build vocabulary to avoid plagiarism, and MSALs (Modern South Arabian Languages) of Oman which are included in the UNESCO list of endangered languages.

Dr. Kiran Sankar Chakraborty is serving as Regional Director, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), India. He has more than 35 years of teaching and academic experiences at higher education level. He has conducted several research projects, supervised a good number of Ph.D and M.Phil Scholars, authored and edited 15 books and more than 50 research papers in reputed journals of India and abroad. He has participated and presented research papers   in many national and international seminars and conferences. He has also chaired a good number of technical  sessions and delivered ‘Invited Lecture’ in seminars and conferences at national and international level. He is associated with many universities/institutions as different capacities.

dr. Alex Parisky

Dr. Alex Parisky has over 25 years of experience in education and working with educational technology. Originally started out at the K-12 level, teaching gifted math/science/technology while being recognized as a National Board Certified Science teacher.  Over 15 years of experience developing educational technology solutions and instructional design in higher education at the undergraduate, graduate, and medical education levels. A majority of Dr. Parisky’s research articles and conference proceedings were developed during the five years he spent working as an instructional designer for the Center of Cardiovascular Research at the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Medicine. He holds Master’s degrees in Curriculum & Instruction and Computer Education & Leadership, in addition to a PhD in Education focusing on educational technology.

Dr. Voltaire Mistades

Philippines
Voltaire Mistades is Associate Professor of the Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC College of Education, De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines. He has held the following administrative roles in the University: Vice Dean of the College of Science (2003-2006), Dean of Student Affairs (2006-2009), University Registrar (2013-2016), and Dean of the College of Education (2012-2013 and 2016-2018). He is currently the Director of the University's Core Curriculum. He obtained his M.S. Physics degree in 2001, doing work on conducting polymers. In 2011, he completed his Ph.D. in Science Education (major in Physics) working on a Substantive-Level Theory of Teaching Introductory Physics. His research interests include physics education, values education, technology in education, and teaching & learning in higher education. Currently, he is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Information and Education Technology. A passionate educator, he is a Hall of Fame awardee for the Students' Search for Outstanding Teachers (SSOT) after being awarded Outstanding Teacher for three consecutive years. In 2019, the World Education Congress conferred on him the Education Leadership Award.

Prof. Aileen Talidano

Aileen Talidano is a professor, teaching Professional Subjects in Education and one of the Research Panels and Advisers of the Department of Teacher Education of [University of Mindanao] UM Tagum College. Her training in Teaching Strategies in South Australia through the Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao were integrated in the presentation of activities in her published textbooks. She is an author of the Blue Patriarch Publishing House where she wrote [as co-author] text books for college students – Akademikong Filipino and Pagbasa at Pagsulat sa Iba’t Ibang Disiplina- and as lead author in Readings in Philippine History. As previous Head of Community Extension, she was motivated to take Impact Assessment and Poverty Alleviation: Focus on Technology and Capacity Development and completed the course with distinction in UP Open University. In this time of health crisis, she accepted the invitation of the Commission on Higher Education [Region XI] to be one of the module writers; and has shared her Teacher’s Creativity in Disruptive Education as Regional Resource Speaker for QUIPPER – an Educational Technology Company.

Papers presented at the conference will be published in the official ISBN conference proceedings publication, if submitted by deadline and in the requested format.

In order to have your paper published in the official conference proceedings, your submission should have been previously approved and registration arrangements completed.

Paper publication is not mandatory. Authors who have completed registration arrangements and wish their paper to be published in the official conference proceedings publication must submit the final manuscript by February 10th 2023. Otherwise, only the abstract will be published if it meets formatting requirements and is approved by the EDC2023 Reviewing board.
